Cypress, Bel-Air and the Old Course: These are this Marvel actress’ favorite courses

Being a golfer in Hollywood is quite a glamorous life.

Especially if you have a game like Kathyrn Newton.

The “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” actress, who had quite the burgeoning golf career before choosing to pursue acting, sat down with GOLF Subpar co-hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz to talk about some of the incredible tracks she’s played.

“My favorite L.A. course is a Soule Park in Ojai. It’s a public course. It’s gorgeous,” Newton said. “My favorite club? Probably Bel-Air. I think Bel-Air is a classic: Old Hollywood and just beautiful. And they’re going to redo it. You know, it’s going to be so nice.”

However, when it comes to Newton’s favorite golf course ever, it’s nothing like the typical parkland golf courses around Los Angeles or the United States in general.

“My favorite course I’ve ever played is definitely the Old Course at St. Andrews,” she said. “I don’t think that any course compares.

How can women’s golf continue to grow? A Hollywood actress shares her take

“I also think it’s a different game. I think links-style golf is like, you don’t have to have a good swing. You can just hit your 8-iron all day and you’ll be fine on the ground.”

Newton explained that she was taught to play bump-and-runs around the greens by her father and it’s a shot she can play everywhere in links golf. She never understood it until she played across the pond for the first time.

However, the bump-and-run apparently didn’t help her out too much at this year’s Open Championship site, Royal Liverpool.

“I never want to do that one again,” she said. “It’s the hardest course I played in my life.”

She said it was even harder than Scotland’s Carnoustie, which is often called “Car-nasty,” but she didn’t feel it had earned that moniker.

Back in California, Newton, who has played in the Pure Insurance Championship, the PGA Tour Champions event with both amateurs and First Tee juniors at Pebble Beach, and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, has played a lot of Northern California gems, but one stands out:

Cypress Point. No wonder it’s GOLF’s No. 2 course in the U.S.
